The HIVA research about mentoring involves both the development of mentoring programs, the evaluation of programs as more conceptual work.

In 2016 mayor, Bart Somers, won the World Mayor Prize for his integration and diversity policy, specifically concerning the integration of migrants and the reception of refugees and asylum-seekers in the local community, the so-called ‘Mechelen model’.
The Municipality of Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis has a long history of managing refugee communities. The compounded Municipality of Nikea - Agios Ioannis Rentis is among the municipalities with the highest number of refugee population in Greece. Its expertise has contributed to developing an open culture, a clear vision of diversity and social inclusion.
Municipality of Sala is a member of a network set up by the Governor working with topics related to the integration process. During the period 2015-2016 Municipality of Sala developed the Sala-method, which was highly appreciated by the refugees and by CMER during one of their meetings.
