It smartly pairs newly arrived third country nationals (newcomers) with the volunteer members of the local community in order to help them overcome daily difficulties at the early stage of their integration process..

 Smart social mentoring program

❖ ORIENT8 is a smart social mentoring program supported by smart digital tools and tailored activities.

❖ We aim to improve the social orientation of newcomers, promote exchanges between newcomers and host society and improve transnational cooperation and knowledge among practitioners.

❖ ORIENT8 will be implemented in three partner cities: (Mechelen/Belgium, Nikaia-Rentis/ Greece and Sala/Sweden).

❖ The main output of ORIENT8 is an “effective, efficient and durable” smart social mentoring program.

❖ ORIENT8’s primary target group is newly arrived (less than five years) Third Country Nationals. Secondary target group is the members of the local communities. Practitioners are also among the beneficiaries who will make use of our mentoring program and tools.

Beyond the Horizon ISSG

BtH ISSG vzw is an independent, non-profit think-and-do tank specialised (among others) in social inclusion and integration. BtH does research and conducts seminars, panels, and workshops, leads other EU/local projects with its in-house expertise. BtH has training expertise with its own Horizon Global Academy, and expertise on Artificial Intelligence Powered Trusted Applications.

The HIVA-Research Institute

The HIVA-Research Institute for Work and Society – KU Leuven is a policy-oriented interdisciplinary research center into social problems of relevance to workers, underprivileged groups and social organizations. The HIVA research about mentoring involves both the development of mentoring programs, the evaluation of programs as more conceptual work.

The Municipality of Mechelen

The Municipality of Mechelen is a city with a clear vision on diversity. In 2016 mayor, Bart Somers, won the World Mayor Prize for his integration and diversity policy, specifically concerning the integration of migrants and the reception of refugees and asylum-seekers in the local community, the so-called ‘Mechelen model’.

The Municipality of Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis

The Municipality of Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis has a long history of managing refugee communities. The compounded Municipality of Nikea - Agios Ioannis Rentis is among the municipalities with the highest number of refugee population in Greece. Its expertise has contributed to developing an open culture, a clear vision of diversity and social inclusion.

Municipality of Sala

Municipality of Sala

Municipality of Sala is a member of a network set up by the Governor working with topics related to the integration process. During the period 2015-2016 Municipality of Sala developed the Sala-method, which was highly appreciated by the refugees and by CMER during one of their meetings.
